Creating Peace from Chaos

Have you lost your keys, phone, wallet and mind all in the same day? I sure have. Most of the time it was because things weren't were they belonged, drawers were over stuffed and closets became storage lockers for every clearance item, "I'll wear this some day shirt" and amazon package you want to hide form your husband.
The definition of chaos, is complete disorder and disorganization. Your home is your safe haven and the last thing you want in it, is chaos. So when you keep your home clean and organized you are creating a peaceful environment for yourself and your family.
The less stuff you have the less of mess you'll have to clean. Think about it this way. The more clothes you have, the more laundry you have to wash, dry, fold and put away.
The first step before you begin organizing is to declutter. Grab 3 ( 6 if your an overachiever ) large trash bags one for donations, one for recycle and one for trash. Clear out things like...
Shoes and clothes you haven't worn in the last 6 months, or are too small or too big - donate them or sell them.
Trash any clothes or shoes that have holes or stains.
Go through your socks and underwear, if there are holes and stains throw them away .. or better yet burn them, whatever you do please do not donate them.
Trash old receipts.
Recycle magazines.
Donate old books/textbooks you haven't read and please be honest with yourself, will you ever really read them?
Shred and trash any bills older than 3 months. If you really need to save them take a picture of it with your phone and go paperless.
Trash anything expired - food, meds, lotions etc.
Toss any odds and ends that you have no idea what they belong to.
Toss anything broken. If you haven't fixed it in the same week that it broke, toss it.
Recycle/ Donate reusable plastic cups and mismatched mugs and dishes.
Donate toys that your children do not play with.
Last but not least those "things".. you know those things that you hold on to because someone gave it to you and you feel bad giving it away.. just let it go, I promise you will feel better. If it is something you really just can't part with repurpose it or take a picture of it before you give it away.
Letting go of things may be difficult to do, but remember things are just THINGS. When you leave this earth you can not take those things with you. Do yourself and your family the favor and just let it go or give them away to someone who needs it - you really will feel so much better.
Once you have decluttered you then can organize. Pinterest has so many ideas how to organize your drawers and closets without breaking the bank. I will be posting some before and afters of some of my closets and drawers to give you some inspiration some will be below and others will be posted on Pinterest and Youtube.
After you have organized your drawers, closets, etc., create a schedule. That schedule will help you maintain that organization. Separate each room of your home on a piece of paper and list each cabinet, drawer, closet and storage space to keep you accountable. Set one room for each day of the week to maintain.
The Apostle Paul said "godliness with contentment is great gain". We can always try to create our own sense of peace but ultimately inner Peace can only be found in our Father in heaven. He supplies all of our needs through His spirit, including peace. John 14:27 says "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid".
